From Thursday, May 8 to Sunday, May 11, Sofia will once again transform into a stunning open-air gallery during the LUNAR 2025 Light Festival.

For the fourth consecutive year, iconic buildings, parks, and squares in central Sofia will be illuminated with 3D mapping shows and light installations by artists from around the world. The festival was first held in Bulgaria in 2022 and now attracts over half a million visitors each year. So far, more than 90 light art pieces have been presented by 57 creators and studios from 18 countries.

LUNAR is organized by Bulgarian visual effects studio MP-STUDIO in partnership with the Festival of Lights International, one of the largest light art festivals in the world. It is held with the support of the Ministry of Tourism, the European Parliament Liaison Office, the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria, Sofia Municipality, and under the patronage of Mayor Vasil Terziev, as well as the National Culture Fund and the general media partnership of bTV Media Group. VIP Security is the event's main security partner.

LUNAR 2025 Festival Highlights This year’s program includes an exciting lineup of artistic events:

• “LEGACY” (Competition) – video mapping works under the patronage of the Ministry of Tourism, presented by finalists from 26 countries. National Gallery – Kvadrat 500, Alexander Nevsky Square – 15 minutes on foot from our apartments.
• “FAMILY IDYLL” – a magical light story presented by Videnov Furniture. Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, near Alexander Nevsky Cathedral – 15 minutes walk.
• “VALUES” – a 3D video mapping show celebrating Europe Day. National Library “St. Cyril and Methodius” – 15–20 minutes on foot.
• “A WORLD AT RISK” & “HOPE FOR THE FUTURE” – 360° immersive experiences about Earth’s critical zones. Knyazheska Garden, near Sofia University metro station – 15–20 minutes away.
• “GUARDIANS OF THE LIGHT” – holographic light installation by MP-STUDIO. Crystal Garden – 10–12 minutes from our apartments.
• “FROM THEN TO NOW” – video mapping by Visa and DSK Bank. National Gallery – The Palace, Prince Alexander I Square – a few minutes walk.
• “BEYOND” – video mapping show celebrating bTV’s 25th anniversary. 4 Knyaz Alexander I St., City Garden – just minutes away.
• “MOONLIT NIGHT” – floating light installation by MP-STUDIO. City Garden, fountain in front of Ivan Vazov National Theatre.
• “IGNITE THE SPARK” & “REFLECTIONS” – video 3D mapping shows by Renault and dm Bulgaria, plus a special projection of Petko Slaveykov’s poem My Fatherland. 11 Slaveykov Square – a few minutes walk.
• “GENERATIONS” – light installation by MP-STUDIO. Slaveykov Square, Solunska St. – nearby the apartments.
• “BRIGHT HORIZONS” (Competition) – static 3D mapping presented by National Culture Fund. National Palace of Culture (NDK), Bulgaria Square – 10–12 minutes away.
• “PATH OF DREAMS” – audience projection by MP-STUDIO. Park in front of NDK – 10–12 minutes walk.
• “OSMIC ECHO” – video mapping and laser show by MP-STUDIO. Cosmos Fountain, underpass of NDK – 10–12 minutes walk.
• “IN THE HEART OF THE CITY” – a permanent light installation created during LUNAR 2023 by National Art Academy students. Underpass between Vasil Levski Blvd. and Georgi S. Rakovski St.
