Sofia Planetarium "Andromeda" - An Unforgettable Cosmic Experience

The Sofia Planetarium is an innovative digital planetarium located in the heart of Sofia (South Park 2 - "Toplocentrala"), offering everyone the chance to immerse themselves in the vast Universe and see the world from a different perspective. It has a capacity of up to 15 people. Visitors will feel as if they are inside a space capsule. The planetarium consists of several key elements:

• Dome: A 5-meter diameter dome built using aviation technology with polymer composite materials, only 6 mm thick. It is very light (weighing less than 100 kg) but extremely strong.
• Digital Projection System: Consisting of four identical projectors that assemble the image on the inner surface of the dome.
• Acoustic System: The dome is tilted at a 25° angle and elevated 1850 mm above the base surface, allowing the physical sound effect of reverberation—superimposition of sound waves from the Surround Sound system and reflected waves from the dome, resulting in dense and rich 3D sound throughout the Star Hall.

The planetarium is a high-tech project developed entirely in Bulgaria (except for the projection system) by a team of engineers and scientists from EKB "Photonics," who also created the first two Bulgarian aviation simulators - the military Photonica MAS G1 and the civil Photonica CAS C172. The project was in development for over two years, beginning in 2020, and officially opened on November 26, 2022.

Program The planetarium's program includes star shows, films, lectures, and special events. The projection system allows for films to be displayed in dome format. The content is translated and voiced in Bulgarian, but there is a database of films in various languages, including English, German, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Chinese, and others.

Early screenings at 12:00 and 13:00 are available only on Saturdays and Sundays. On weekdays, the planetarium opens at 14:00.

• The Solar System: An Incredible Journey Cosmic audio-visual show - "Mission to the Moon" Duration - 40 min. An immersive journey through the Solar System, presented with full-dome 4K computer graphics.
• The Hot and Furious Universe Cosmic audio-visual show - "Light" Duration - 40 min.

The planetarium also hosts space-themed birthday parties, romantic dates, group visits for children, students, and VIP screenings, as well as team-building and corporate events. All events need to be scheduled in advance via the contact email provided on the planetarium's website (www.sofiaplanetarium.bg). The team also organizes various space events like Astro-parties, Astro-quizzes, and more.
