Festival Program and Parades

The official opening of the festival will take place on Friday, January 16, with a spectacular show that will turn Pernik into a celebration of sound, light, and ancient masquerade rituals.

Due to the exceptional interest and an expected record number of participants, the masquerade parades will be held for the first time over two consecutive weekends:

  • January 17 and 18 (Saturday and Sunday)

  • January 24 and 25 (Saturday and Sunday)

Over the course of ten days, the festival will present a rich program including exhibitions, concerts, performances, creative workshops, thematic events, and art installations, bringing life and energy to the entire city.

International Recognition and Anniversary Edition

The 60th anniversary edition of Surva will be held under the patronage of UNESCO, highlighting the festival’s global cultural significance and the outstanding efforts of the Municipality of Pernik.

Last year, Pernik was officially named a “Global Center of Masquerade Traditions and Rituals” by Lars Algel, President of the Federation of European Carnival Cities (FECC).

To mark the 60th anniversary, a new visual identity has been created by Pernik-based artist Marina Stoyanova, symbolizing the connection between tradition, identity, and contemporary artistic expression.
