On March 1st – Baba Marta Day and the arrival of spring, BDZ (Bulgarian State Railways - www.bdz.bg), in partnership with the National Ethnographic Museum – BAS (www.nembg.com), is organizing a festive train trip from Sofia to Bankya.
Residents and visitors of the capital will have the unique opportunity to ride the retro train No. 19 001.7, manufactured in 1960 by SGP-Wien, Austria. It was one of the most modern trains of its time and was later used as the primary transport for state leaders.
On March 1st (Saturday), the retro train will operate two round trips on the Sofia – Bankya – Sofia route:
- First departure: 09:50 AM from Sofia Central Railway Station, arriving in Bankya at 10:14 AM.
- Return trip: 11:40 AM from Bankya, arriving back in Sofia at 12:04 PM.
- Second departure: 12:50 PM from Sofia Central Railway Station, arriving in Bankya at 1:14 PM.
- Return trip: 3:00 PM from Bankya, arriving in Sofia at 3:24 PM.
The retro train will be festively decorated, and passengers can look forward to special surprises. BDZ and the National Ethnographic Museum – BAS have prepared educational gifts with interesting facts about Bulgarian folk traditions.

Round-trip tickets for the Sofia – Bankya – Sofia route are:
- 44 BGN for adults
- 22 BGN for children under 10 years old
- Includes reserved seats
