At the initiative of Sofia Municipality, a special Christmas Retro Tram will operate in the city center from December 17 (Tuesday) to December 25 (Wednesday). The tram will depart every hour on the hour between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM, starting from Vazrazhdane Square and passing through Macedonia Square, Garibaldi Square, Slaveykov Square, Vasil Levski Blvd., UACEG, and ending at Journalist Square.

Each adult passenger may bring one or more children to enjoy the ride together. Onboard, Santa Claus and Snow White will accompany the little ones, handing out gifts to brighten their holiday season.

Another retro tram, Tram 83, has opened as a tourist information center at Banski Square (across from the Central Halls, near Serdika Metro Station, just a 5-6 minute walk from our apartments). The official opening took place on December 16 (Monday), with a performance by the Representative Brass Orchestra of the Bulgarian Land Forces, led by Major Todor Penkov.

As part of the event, OP “Tourism” organized a free tour aboard Retro Tram 92, traveling along a route that included Vazrazhdane Square, the Palace of Justice, and the Central Halls.

Passengers received authentic tickets in the style of the 1930s, stamped with the date of their ride.

Tram 83 sits on historic tracks dating back to 1901 and is surrounded by authentic ballast, adding to its retro charm.

Its location was carefully chosen to symbolize Sofia’s tolerance and millennia-long history.

Visitors can explore information about the history and development of tram transport in the city, which began in 1901, as well as learn about Sofia’s rich cultural program.

The restoration of Tram 83 began in 2015, initiated by the “Urban Transport and Infrastructure” Association with financial support from Siemens Bulgaria.

The restoration was carried out at the “Tramkar” division of Sofia’s Electric Transport Company. Both Tram 83 and Tram 92 were operational until the mid-1980s as service vehicles.

In 1999, Tram 92 was restored, becoming Sofia’s first attraction retro tram.
