The 20th edition of the "European Night of Museums" - Sofia 2024 will be held on May 18 (Saturday).

More than 50 museums and galleries will join the program of the cultural event - exhibitions, concerts, films, workshops, guided tours.

It is organized by the French Institute in Bulgaria, with the partnership of the Ministry of Culture and Sofia Municipality, and the support of BNP Paribas and Total Energies.

Entrance to the "European Night of Museums" - Sofia 2024 is free for all residents and guests of Sofia, except in cases where the program mentions otherwise.

 

On May 18, for the convenience of visitors to the event, a special retro attraction line will be launched, with the cooperation of "City Transport and Infrastructure", "Metropolitan Transport" and Ikarus Bulgaria. It will be served by refurbished models of Mercedes-Benz, Chavdar and Ikarus buses, and will connect the museums in the central part of Sofia with the Earth and People Museum, the National History Museum and the National Polytechnic Museum.

Buses will depart every 20 minutes between 18:00 and 00:30.

  • French Institute in Bulgaria (www.institutfrancais.bg) - at Slaveykov Square 3 (a few minutes' walk from our luxury hotel apartments - see here).

    From 16:00 to 20:00 in the media library of the Institut Française, visitors will be able to go back in time and dance virtually in Versailles, through the game Just Dance 2024 for Nintendo Switch. Free entry, advance registration required.

    From 19:00 in the "Slaveykov" hall, on the occasion of the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, there will be a special evening, with screenings of French animated films on a sports theme - "Athleticus" by Nicolas Devot and "Trio Belleville" by Sylvain Chaumet.

    Entrance is by ticket.

 

  • Regional History Museum - Sofia (www.sofiahistorymuseum.bg) - at 1 "Banski" square, near the Serdika metro station (the nearest hotel apartments we have are just a few minutes' walk away - see here).

    From 12:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. (last entry time - 10:30 p.m.) on the various floors of the "Temporary Exhibitions" hall, several exhibitions can be seen - "Elegance of Metal" by Ivan Minkov (ground floor), jubilee exhibition "Archeology of Sofia and Sofia 2023" (floor 1) and Hristina Kostova's "River of Oblivion". Guided tour of the museum.

 

  • National Natural History Museum at BAS (www.nmnhs.com) - nabul. Tsar Osvoboditel 1, a 10-minute walk from our apartments for short and medium-term use in Sofia. From 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. - permanent exhibition of the museum, presenting the biological and mineralogical diversity of the Earth, as well as the only samples from the Moon and meteorite finds from Mars in Bulgaria. From 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. - activities for students, and from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. - "Science Cafe" for students and adults. From 16:30 to 17:30 - for the little ones - a meeting with the world of bees.

From 09:30 to 23:00 - exhibition "Ancient finds. New discoveries. Archaeological season 2023", as well as the permanent exhibition, without the Ethnography, Coin and Renaissance School halls.
From 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. every round hour - free thematic talks on various topics - "Woman - priestess, goddess, queen, princess", "Symbols of power through the ages", "Jewelry from antiquity to the 20th century".

From 10:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. in the Museum Education Center - paid thematic workshops - mosaic, ethnographic dolls, felts, decoration of ceramic dishes, flags.

From 20:00 to 21:00 - special event "Musical Walk in Time" - songs in Bulgarian, French, Italian, Spanish with performer Nadia Toncheva (piano and vocals)

National Museum of Military History (www.militarymuseum.bg) - naul. Cherkovna 92, near MOL Serdika center.


From 18:00 to 23:00 - permanent chronological exposition - free entry.

From 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. - a concert by the Guards Representative Brass Band.

From 21:00 to 23:00 - cinema in the museum.

  • National Museum "Earth and Man" (www.earthandman.org) - located at 4 Cherni Vrah Blvd, near the National Palace of Culture (NDK) and the Hilton Hotel. It is a 20-minute walk or a metro ride on line M2 from our apartments, near the European Union metro station.

From 18:00 to 23:00 - all permanent and temporary exhibitions of the museum will be open.

  • National Polytechnic Museum (www.polytechnic-museum.com) - located at 66 Opalchenska St., near Opalchenska metro station - lines M1 and M4.

From 18:00 to 22:00 - thematic exhibition "310 Years of the Typewriter" (visual history), art exhibition, paintings by artist Vili Nikolov.

At 18:00 and 20:00 - experiments "Physics in Action". Entrance with tickets - price 10 BGN.

  • National Anthropological Museum at the Institute of Experimental Morphology, Pathology and Anthropology with a museum at BAS (Bulgarian Academy of Sciences) – www.iempam.bas.bg - located at 73 Tsarigradsko Shose Blvd.

From 18:00 to 23:30 - visiting exhibition from the Regional Historical Museum - Vratsa, demonstrations by Wushu sports clubs, yoga club, anthropological workshop, and workshop with Busina ceramics, bioimpedance measurement, genealogy workshop.

At 21:30 and 22:30 - guided tour of the museum with a specialized lecture.

From 19:00 - music marathon with young talents from New Bulgarian University.

From 19:30 - concert "Vocal-Piano Journeys" performed by Hristina Traykoska (soprano) and Petya Staneva (piano). Capacity - 35 seats.
