FOR JAZZ LOVERS - INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL A TO JAZZ 2024 04.07.2024
This week, Sofia is all about jazz. From July 4th (Thursday) to July 7th (Sunday), the capital will host the 13th edition of the international jazz festival A to JazZ 2024. The festival was established in 2011 and traditionally marks the beginning of summer each year, showcasing Bulgarian and international jazz performers and musicians - from well-established artists to emerging young talents on its open-air stage.
A to JazZ Festival is organized by the A to Z Foundation, with the support of Sofia Municipality, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Tourism, and the National Culture Fund. The festival is a member of the European Festival Association Yourope and the European Jazz Network. A to JazZ Festival is part of UPBEAT - the European platform for world music, consisting of 14 international festivals and co-funded by the European Union.
This year's festival program includes 25 concerts, an Art Bazaar, the children's program A to JazZ Kids, the professional mini-conference A to JazZ Talks, various workshops, sports activities, and music yoga. Over four consecutive jazz evenings, you can immerse yourself in the magic of music with KNOWER, MCCOY TYNER LEGENDS, CYRILLE AIMÉE, and many others. The festival park will again be located in South Park II - close to the NDK and Hilton Hotel, just a 20-minute walk from our central apartments, between the NDK and European Union metro stations.

On the second day of the festival, you can expect wonderful artists - the McCoy Tyner Legends project - one of the most influential musicians in jazz history, with Italian virtuoso Antonio Farao (piano) and legends Chico Freeman (sax), Steve Turre (trombone), Avery Sharpe (bass), and Ronnie Burrage (drums), as well as the incredible Polish bassist Kinga Glyk, with numerous nominations and prestigious awards at international music competitions, four released albums, and millions of views on YouTube, Bulgarian performer Alexander Slavchev, known to the general public from the music format "The Voice of Bulgaria" and the young jazz talents Postcard, who will present their debut album "Stories" with original music from each musician.

On the third day of the festival, you can see the innovators in jazz and improvisational music - the amazing French performer Cyrille Aimée, nominated for a Grammy in 2019, the Austrian quintet Austrian Syndicate, PeYotoff (the solo project of jazz guitarist Peter Yotov), and the band of Varna-based synth innovators led by Mista Future (Georgi Iliev).

The headliners of the last festival day are the famous musical duo from Los Angeles - KNOWER, who will present their new album. On stage, we will also see Arnau Garroffe Faras and his group Frantik Zen from Catalonia, winners of the award for best jazz album 2023, Mihail Yossifov and his musical formation The Jazz News, as well as young Mongolian performers YIK-CCN, who master traditional string instruments like the Mongolian fiddle "morin khuur" and authentic Mongolian throat singing "khoomei".
On the A to JazZ Kids stage, popular children's songs will be played in jazz arrangements. Children will be able to sing and dance to their favorite songs and participate in a competition for the best children's performer. On July 6 and 7 at 10:30 a.m. at Toplozentral - amphitheater.
On July 6 and 7 at 08:00 a.m., those interested can start their day with a Musical Yoga Breakfast on the terrace of Toplozentral. The yoga practices will be conducted by Padma Yoga Tribe, accompanied by live Indian instruments played by Rosen Genkov. After that, there will be a breakfast with fresh fruits and a cup of tea.
Nightstage
The traditional jam sessions of A to JazZ will be led by virtuoso trumpeter, composer, and arranger Mihail Yossifov and his band. On July 5, 6, and 7 at 11:00 p.m. in Hall 1 of Toplozentral.

Music Talks Conference is a music conference, part of the festival's professional program. It will be held on July 5 and 6 at Toplozentral. Pre-registration is required.
